The Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center (EARDC) is a leading hub for the study and protection of the Edwards Aquifer, a unique limestone water system that provides clean, reliable water to more than two million people across Central Texas. Through its work, EARDC helps ensure the long-term sustainability of this vital natural resource.
At the core of EARDC’s mission is scientific research. The center conducts in-depth studies in aquatic biology, geochemistry, and hydrogeology to better understand how the aquifer functions and how it can be responsibly managed. These efforts contribute valuable data to scientists, policymakers, and communities working to protect water quality and availability. EARDC also offers NELAP-accredited water testing services, providing accurate, professional analysis for individuals, organizations, and municipalities.
EARDC is equally committed to education and public engagement. The center offers hands-on learning experiences through summer camps and field days, giving students and families the opportunity to explore the aquifer, learn about water science, and connect with the natural world. These programs are designed to inspire curiosity while building awareness of sustainable water use and conservation.
A key feature of EARDC is its Aquifer Biodiversity Collection (ABC), a specialized collection of groundwater invertebrates found within the Edwards Aquifer. This collection supports ongoing scientific research and serves as an important educational resource, highlighting the unique and often unseen species that depend on this ecosystem.
